My home at TECFA
Since I decided to follow the postgraduate studies STAF at TECFA, University of Geneva, from October 1996 to July 1998, I started a very close connection to the Web. One of the first tasks of the STAF program was to set-up my own homepage.

My first edition of my home was rather simple: I explored the possibilities of text only. Using tables, I displayed my messages in 3 languages side by side: French, English, and German.

Being citizen of Switzerland, I tried to improve my French - quite a hard job for me. In order to provide a wide international channel my homepage shows the same text in English as well.
But writing in second languages is a challenging and demanding task. The third column of my home page gives a nice opportunity to write in a more relaxing way: in my first language German.

As soon as I found time I switched to a more visual set-up and started the second edition of my home at TECFA.

I tried to find a solution that works more or less above all natural languages. Using the language of visual signs my homepage should deliver clear messages:

  • The visitor is entering a new unit. This unit is an organic network.

  • The network consists of roots, a living organism, and fruits:
    - The tree is my home: I am living in the middle of the tree-top. Clicking my name links visitors to the first edition of my home.
    - The tree is getting (most of) the power from the inspirations of the study courses STAF 11-18. Clicking the black numbers displays the course programs, clicking STAF the description of the entire postgraduate study program. (The other important source, the sun, should be mentioned here too.)
    - The tree produces fruits: the products of my tasks. Clicking the apples links to my overview pages of each STAF course, where visitors find all my products listed up.

  • In addition to the TidBits 11 to 18 my tree produces one more apple: CyberSlang. Here I try to group products that explain the cyberspace and its vocabulary.

  • The persons feeding the roots of the tree, the professors at TECFA, are listed near the roots. Clicking their names takes visitors to their own homepages.

  • Two links lead outside the STAF region: prolingua (to the home of my firm) and Forum L2 (to the home of my second language project). But both projects are well integrated in my work for STAF.

    The bottom part of all my pages displays useful links:
    - a direct link to my home (this web page),
    - a direct link to the list of all my student fellows,
    - a direct link to the TECFA homepage,
    - and a fast and easy way to send feedback to me.

    Above this bottom part many of my pages provide links to my TidBits overview pages.
