Abstract

Web Services fundamentally change the standards-based software architecture. They enable enterprises to deploy applications with much less complexity. Shinka demonstrates how the use of XML-based Web Services will develop in the next years. Vital to a successful implementation apart from designing and deploying Web Services is in particular the management of Web Services, e.g. with respect to user management, billing, and service level management. The necessity of bridging between existing platforms like Microsoft, SUN or IBM makes an independent, standards-based approach crucial. The use of XML, HTTP and Web Services standards like WSDL, SOAP and UDDI are critical for successful and efficient projects. From Shinkas' Web Services projects experiences the Web Services Revolution starts within the enterprise dealing with internal integration issues like customer data management and multi-channel integration. The next step is a component-based oursorcing based on Web Services followed by the extension towards dynamic business webs where enterprises will be able to flexibly configure and offer new products together with partners over a variety of channels to end-customers.
