Abstract

This paper describes the results of a project funded by the Italian Government having as a primary goal the design of the network service architecture (called the Business Community Service Infrastructure, BCSI) for the transport operators located in the Port of Genoa. The BCSI Architecture presented in this paper takes advantages of XML and Web Services technologies and is specifically directed to a “Business Community” (BC), i.e. a Community of users that cooperate in the same business area. In particular the paper analyzes the structure and the requirements of a BC in general, derives the requirements of the BCSI and describes the BCSI Architecture technically. Finally a case study is presented to show how the BCSI has been an appropriate solution for the Business Community of the Port of Genoa.
