Abstract

As an introduction to the conference proceedings Edd Dumbill, the conference chair, will give a talk taking stock of the state of the XML industry. XML now finds application in an incredible number of areas. As well as having become truly pervasive in the world of computing, XML has changed the way many industry and government groups do their business. Following the theme of the conference, 'Down to Business: Getting Serious About XML,' this talk will highlight some of the opportunities and challenges faced by XML adopters today, and also examine the changes in the world of XML standards such widespread adoption has brought about.
